LAIRD TECHNOLOGIES INTRODUCES ITS ORBCOMM PHANTOM® VG ANTENNA
Small Size, Low Profile, Mechanically Rugged Antenna Offers Improved VHF+ GPS Performance Providing Higher Communication Data Rates And Better Coverage Area

Laird Technologies, the world’s leading designer and manufacturer of antenna solutions, electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding products, telematics, thermal management solutions, wireless systems and signal integrity products, today introduces its Orbcomm Phantom® VG antenna, a low profile, mechanically rugged, wideband VHS + GPS “bar style” antenna offering field diversity technology to improve RF performance.
The powerful Orbcomm Phantom® VG measures only 2.2 inches high, 3.0 inches wide and 12.5 inches long. It operates very efficiently across the Orbcomm bandwidth of 137 to 149 MHz and exhibits a VSWR of less than 2:1 at the important band edges. The Orbcomm Phantom® VG antenna is ideal for Orbcomm system users who desire an antenna solution that provides better RF performance, smaller size and improved product integrity.
Laird Technologies’ new Orbcomm Phantom® VG antenna offers field diversity technology, which provides a full spherical radiation pattern that overcomes nulls and gaps found in a conventional whip-style antenna. This leads to better connectivity and higher data rates, especially in areas such as urban canyons and rural drop off areas.
The small size allows the new Obrcomm Phantom® VG to be very unobtrusive. It can be easily mounted either vertically or horizontally, using screw on bolts or adhesive padding and is available with back or side cable exit configurations.
The RoHS compliant Orbcomm Phantom® VG is mechanically rugged and withstands tough environments including resistance to almost all weather conditions and the sun’s harsh UV rays.
“Many of the typical Orbcomm antennas being used today are a stainless steel whip antenna measuring as long as 50 inches in length and are typically mounted on outside mirrors or directly on the vehicle using brackets,” said Craig Somach, director of sales. “Our Orbcomm Phantom® antenna is an ideal replacement for these whip style antennas, offering the combination of size reduction, enhanced RF performance and improved product durability and reliability.”
